Embryo Transfer as a new method of reproduction, has been introduced at the Institute for more than ten years.

The Institute is equipped with an up-to date stationary and movable laboratory for the carrying out Embryo Transfer on the farms.

The first aim of the work with Embryo Transfer is to produce bulls of pure breed, to create nucleus herds, to faciliate the MOET Programe in the production and testing of bulls, and the export of embryos. There is an annual isolation of about 100-200 embryos, depending of the Institute's and farm's needs.

The MOET Programme, has been adapted to our requirements. In an open (or combined open - closed) model it has been introduced in a project, where we are aiming at shortening the generation intervals in bull-testing to 4.5 years by increasing the intensity of parential selection. According to our programme, with a controlled population of 20000 cows, it is imperative to have 50-70 bulls mother in the flow which are to be tested during their second lactation in the frame of the Donor Station. The progeny (real sisters) are tested at the Testing Station with a capacity of 300 cows, or partly at the Testing Station and partly on the farms (combined open and closed MOET Programme). The aimed at annual genetic progress for the following period would increase up to 1.5 - 2 times in proportion to classical programmes (for artificial insemination only).
